We read a lot of reviews of hill-trip operators before we started Conecting. The bad ones repeat the same story: a hotel that didn't match the promise, a smaller car than agreed, a route changed without warning, and a phone that went unanswered once the advance was paid.
None of that is bad luck. It's what happens when the deal isn't written down. So here are the five questions to ask any operator, us included, before you send money.
One: what is the name of each property I'll stay in? If they can't tell you, they haven't booked it yet. Two: what vehicle class, and will I get the driver's name and number before pickup? Three: what exactly is included, and what will I be asked to pay on the road? Four: what happens if the weather closes a viewpoint, is there a charge to change plans? Five: who do I call during the trip, and is it the same person I've been talking to?
A good operator answers all five in one message and puts it on the quote. That's the whole test. Price matters, but a cheap package with a surprise on day two costs more than an honest one.
If you'd like to see how we answer those questions, both our packages list every inclusion and exclusion on the page. And if something isn't clear, ask. We'd rather explain twice than have you wonder.
